Jonathan Haidt has sparked a movement. Legislators, educators, parents, and students are taking action against the harm smart phones can inflict on youth mental health, learning, and social development.
This special event for state and district leaders will bring together Haidt, policymakers, and influencers to discuss the various perspectives of the phone-free school movement:
- Governor Kathy Hochul (NY) who has just announced a statewide plan to restrict the use of devices, such as smartphones, in K-12 schools throughout the school day to protect the mental health of children and improve student learning by limiting distractions in the classroom.
- Dr. Katie Jenner (IN) who has been spearheading the ban of cell phones in schools unless they are needed for instructional use or in case of emergency.
- NYC student, Juliet Weisfogel, who wrote an OpEd for the New York Times titled, "I'm a 17-year-old TikTok Junkie. I need this Ban," to share the student perspective on the impact of social media on her generation.
